SEPTEMBER NEWS

CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

We are having some pleasant weather as we head into autumn in only a few days time. They always say that Autumn is a period of change and a good chance to reflect on things past and things yet to come. This months newsletter looks to the future with the Breckland Town Plan initiative, the next in the series of our workshops on how to get the most out of your business website, news of George Freeman’s new role in Government, a chance to get together over a drink (a free drink!) and information about support for a new employee training initiative. And yet another new business joins Watton High Street. Things are looking positive.

WATTON AND FUTURE BRECKLAND

September saw the launch of the Breckland Thriving People and Places initiative for Watton. This initiative wholly supported by the Wayland Chamber of Commerce seeks to understand the needs and interests to residents and businesses in Watton in order to provide a robust evidence base and compelling shared vision for the future for the Town and for the district as a whole. Breckland are looking to put Watton and the other market towns in a pole-position to leverage new external funding from central Government for significant projects. Once through the feasibility stage of planning, such external funding potentially could include our collaborative proposed with Norfolk Library Service and the Wayland Partnership for a Digital and Creative Media Centre - a new library, business incubator, cinema and e-theatre. In addition, we have been supportive of improvements to the High Street, and the Wednesday market, and generating new business opportunities within the town.

If you would like to learn more visit the Breckland website and join the remaining programme of events and fill in the on-line survey. https://www.breckland.gov.uk/Watton

ANOTHER RETAILER FOR THE HIGH STREET

JJ Nails and Beauty have opened their doors at 88 High Street to provide professional nail care for both ladies and gentleman. At the more western end of the High Street, pop your nose around the door and say hello. I received a very warm welcome a £5.00 voucher for a future treatment.

If you know of any new business starting-up or relocating to Wayland drop me a line with some details and we can follow-up from there. We are always looking for ways to promote business in Wayland.

ETIP is a grant scheme that has been set up by Norfolk County Council to help SME’s recover from the pandemic by assisting with funding for training courses for new recruits or current employees to help them learn skills that will help improve productivity and efficiency.

The grant scheme will pay 75% of the training costs with a total of £1,500 per business, which is not a bad deal, enabling businesses in Agriculture, Food & Drink, Hospitality, Tourism, Leisure & Culture or Independent Retail sectors to afford the training courses that are required for their employees.

To apply for the scheme, you must be either self-employed, an SME or micro business and based in Norfolk. Have a look at their website www.norfolk.gov.uk/etip or email the team at etip@norfolk.gov.uk
