Blogging is a great tool for your business. It can help you get more visits to  your website, improve your SEO (search rankings) and give your company authority in a busy and competitive online market place.

But for many people the first problem is knowing exactly what to write about and of course how to get people to read them! Many people will have written posts only to be disappointed in the result and then will begin to wonder why even bother at all! What people fail to realise is that there is a lot more that you can do once you have hit that publish button  – especially through social media. So here are some top tips on how to get the most out of your Blog and to maximise response.

  1. Share, share, share!

Social media is a fast moving industry and Google is constantly changing its algorithms so you have to be persistent. As long as your post is still relevant keep re-sharing as you will constantly be hitting new readers/followers.

  1. Be consistent, not constant

There’s a fine line between making sure your post is seen and spamming people, so it’s important that you decide how often you’ll re-share your blogs on each platform.

For example, on Facebook your content might pop up in people’s news feeds for a few days after you first share something so don’t overwhelm people by sharing your blog post again too soon.

However on Twitter posts move a lot so sharing your blog post several times on day one is not over kill. You can then try sharing again a few times in the days that follow and again every week or two after that to help you to reach more people.

  1. Pull out key shareable points and quotes 

You should make sure that your Blog posts are fully shareable and relevant beyond just the headline. Once  you’ve published a new post, reread it through and pull out all of the key points, quotes and one-liners. These are ideal ready-made tweets that will enable you to share your blog posts again and again, without your feed getting stale or your followers getting bored.

  1. Include a social media-friendly image 

Images often  speak louder that words so make sure that you include a social media friendly image in your posts that is usable across all sharing platforms. For wordpress this will be the featured image for your post which is picked up by Facebook. If necessary use this same image for consistency when sharing elsewhere.

  1. Make it easy for people to share your blog posts on social media 

When someone else shares your blog post it helps you to reach more people, but if it’s difficult for people to share then chances are they won’t. Make their lives easier by including social media sharing buttons on your blog so that people can share your content in just a few clicks.

  1. Don’t forget about Pinterest and Instagram!

Pinterest and Instagram are powerful visual tools in sharing content. If you use Pinterest you have the facility of making every pin clickable which is  a powerful way to drive traffic to your blog posts. Instagram is slightly different as it does not allowed clickable urls in the post. The secret is to change the link in your bio to click through to the Blog post that you are promoting.
